Rubbing, chipping loss to head of spine. 343, 459 pp, folding map. Frontis map is of the "General Scene of the Movements of the French and Allied Armies during the Campaign in Saxony in the Year 1813". King Frederick Augustus was appointed king of Saxony when Napoleon abolished the Holy Roman Empire. Loyal to Napoleon during the wars that swept Europe in the following years; Frederick Augustus was taken prisoner and his territories declared forfeit by the Allies in 1813. The opposition of Austria, France, and the United Kingdom to this plan resulted in the restoration of Frederick Augustus to his throne at the Congress of Vienna.
