Colour illustrated wraps and 4 pp. The programme for a famous play put on (and adapted) by Nigel Playfair and Clifford Bax at the Lyric in Hammersmith. The scenery and dresses were designed by Doris Zinkeisen who contributes the very attractive colour cover illustration of a woman with bare breasts dressed as a Mayfly. Very slight surface wear, slight rusting from staple; sound VG. A beautiful and rare ephemeron.

Original stapled illustrated souvenir theatre programme 8'' x 6''. Mervyn Peake's costume designs were first used in a 1932 production of The Insect Play and they were used again for this production. This programme reproduces a drawing by Peake on the front cover. Contains 24 printed pages of text with monochrome photographs of the cast and illustrated advertisements. A very good of the first English translation of the most famous of the four Capek Brothers stage plays. It premiered in 1922 at the National Theatre in Brno, Czechoslovakia entitled 'Pictures from the Insects' Life' and was followed by successful American (1922) and British (1923) productions.
