Libro
Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. Second Edition. Second edition, published in 1924 with MDCCCCXXIV on the title page, and Second Edition - 10th thousand on the printer's page. Printed at The Vincent Works, Oxford. The book was originally published in 1922. ***The collection includes J. R. R. Tolkien's poem 'Goblin Feet', which first appeared in "Oxford Poetry 1915" in 1922. The author's name as a contributor to this anthology is mis-spelled as Tolkein in the contents, index and under the poem itself. ***Very good in thick blue-black paper covered card boards, with a paper label to the spine, and with a monochrome illustrated paper panel to the front board, showing a pixie in an apple tree throwing apples down to a child holding out her pinafore beneath. The boards are clean with just some light marks to the back board, which also has some uneven fading to the blue colour. The spine is slightly scuffed and the fragile paper label has some loss. Slight fading to the blue colour on the front board along the margin with the spine. There are no bumps to the boards, and no tears to the cloth. Corners sharp. All edges of text-block untrimmed (rough-cut as called for). Internally also very good, with no inscriptions. There is some foxing to the first and last few pages, but the main text pages are very clean indeed, and uncommon thus. Very light corner creasing to pp.29-32. Spine tight, with no warping to the boards. No dustwrapper (possibly not published with a dustwrapper). ***63 pages including an Index of Authors and Bibliography at the back of the book. 200mm x 148mm. ***An uncommon early Tolkien publication, of interest to collectors of the author's work. Also includes poems by Robert Graves, Eleanor Farjeon and Edith Sitwell amongst others. A very fragile production - copies of this children's book in collectable condition are few and far between today. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
