Vanity Fair commissioned the late great Irving Penn to photograph all of them, and all five portraits, taken in extreme close-ups, are among the photographer's finest work. In Woody Allen's case, Penn photographed his subject in a legendary Series of various disguise-portraits much earlier. Vanity Fair chose his Groucho Marx-disguise portrait from the Series.
