This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Literature Review from the year 2018 in the subject Chemistry - Bio-chemistry, grade: 3.5, Lagos State University, course: Biochemistry, language: English, abstract: Since recent history, there have been tremendous efforts in combating the challenges of food insecurity. This mini-review discusses how environmental conditions favour or impair the growth and survival of plants via the molecular mechanisms of the secondary metabolites. Like animals, plants have survived many eons by evolving adaptive mechanisms in the presence of the myriad of abiotic and biotic stressors. In this text, the subject of drought and salt content in relationship to their role in biosynthesis of secondary metabolites is being discussed.Fundamentally, plants require optimum concentrations of microfauna/ micronutrients and favourable climatic/edaphic conditions in their metabolism. Consequently, they produce primary metabolites (such as carbohydrates, amino acids among others) that are needed for the normal growth and reproduction of plants. On the other hand, the secondary metabolites are mostly needed for ecological functions and regulating the primary metabolic pathways. Plants via their diverse pathways (TCA cycle, MEP pathway, shikimic pathway, mevalonate pathways) have been found to produce secondary metabolites such as terpenes, phenolic and nitrogen-based compounds. These secondary metabolites have been linked to affect crop yield and medicinal properties of plants in addition to other applications. Through well-controlled machinery of signal transduction; in response to ionic and osmotic balances, the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites has been known to be induced or inhibited for the growth and survival of the plant species. 64 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Health - Nursing Science - Miscellaneous, grade: B+ (70), Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: Stress appears to be a normal response to certain agencies that require the application of our capabilities to adapt to changing environmental conditions. In the care of patients, the working environment typically encompasses well-defined structures such as healthcare institutions (regardless of their levels of expertise) or informal settings commonly found in many resource-limited settings where access to formal institutions may be temporarily or permanently unavailable. The present work focuses on the subject of burnout among nursing professionals owing to a myriad of factors. It highlights the phenomena of stress in the workplace and individual¿s lives of nurses; existing assumptions on burnout as an indicator of stress and its mechanistic pathways within a health organization. This is followed by literature analysis of research works on the impact of burnout, in particular, as a barrier to achieving the ultimate goal of quality and safe patient care and the role of positive psychology. In sum, it is imperative that the promotion of health and the prevention of health problems (particularly among nurses) should majorly be focused on creating a work environment that does not induce an unnecessary amount of stress and that can compensate for unavoidable stress in the form of increased control and rewards for workers among other incentives. 48 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Sociology - Work, Profession, Education, Organisation, grade: A2, Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: In essence, this essay explored the subject of international students' mobility with focus on how students' recruitment can be effectively managed. Studying abroad is an important life's decision that involves moving from one's home country to a foreign community for educational purposes. However, when associated with classic theories of international migrations, there appear to be a myriad of factors that could pre-dispose or influence a potential migrant - in the context of this essay - an international student from West Africa. Such factors have now been widely aligned with the decision to study abroad; the question of what country to select which higher education institution to apply for It has become highly necessary for governments and stakeholders in the education sector to consider more research into identifying various students' choices in relation to diverse nuances (such as political, economic, socio-cultural factors) within their home countries. This will in turn aid in market segmentation amongst various other international strategic marketing tools employed by higher education institutions in the top study destinations. 28 pp. Englisch.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Health - Public Health, grade: B+ (70), Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: The work is focused about substance use and drug addiction in Nigeria. The sub-sections explored the existing landscape of substance use/drug abuse domestically and globally while discussing the illicit use of psychoactive substances and their global health implications. Lastly, management of drug addiction was treated. In Nigeria for instance, there have been growing concerns from various stakeholders from parents of drugs addicts to government regulatory agencies on the burden of drug abuse. The scourge of substance abuse is not limited to the individual; till date its far-reaching implications continues to fuel organized crime, illicit financial flows, corruption, and terrorism/insurgency among others. There is therefore, need for more proactive steps to eliminate substance use problems across various demographics across the country. Interventions should also be considered amid social, cultural and economic variables that persistently stimulate the behaviour.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Tourism - Miscellaneous, grade: A2, Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: The present study is aimed at evaluating the current state of the management of Idanre Hills with the view to contribute knowledge to the sustainable development of the attraction. The natural landscape of the hills is replete with an abundance of biodiversity and a cultural heritage that has survived for centuries. Today, the Idanre landscape is a preferred destination explored for its benefits (notably environmental, economic and socio-cultural).Being in the tentative list of world heritage site, the stakeholders in accordance with the UNESCO regulation have been tasked with adopting effective management and protection strategies to ensure the development of a sustainable heritage site for the present and future generations amongst other benefits. From analysis of literature, in its current state; some factors were found to constitute barriers to the attainment of high performance in the management of Idanre hills including conflict of interests between members of the Idanre community and the state authority on the subject of management; inadequate financial resources, climate change, lack of political will, poor infrastructure, limited education in tourism destination management amongst others. Various solutions have been proffered concerning effective management and sustainable development of tourism attraction from scholarly works. Meanwhile, it is believed that the recommendations for the assessment of management performance should ultimately be in line with the criteria as specified by the UNESCO for the reason that Idanre hills is in the tentative list of world heritage sites. The outcome of adhering to these management criteria is that consequently, the conditions of integrity of the attraction are sustained or enhanced over a longer period. 68 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Master's Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Pharmacology, grade: 80.0A, Obafemi Awolowo University (Faculty of Pharmacy), course: Pharmacology and Toxicvology, language: English, abstract: Scholars in the field of biomedicine have been able to develop models that typifies human disease conditions. In this review, the author attempts to create a narrative that begins with both anecdotal and empirical aspects of traditional medicine around the world; followed by the scientific evidences of its benefits and drawbacks. Owing to their global popularity; in recent times, there have been a rise in public health concerns over their indiscriminate use. Scientists have reported several instances of unintentional toxic effects induced by the use of medicinal plants. More so, in terms of their toxicokinetic mechanisms; some toxic plant substances have been documented to elicit acute effects; others produce long term effects (related to delayed toxicity). However, it's not a terribly bad situation considering that some of these effects have been demonstrated to be reversible via special biochemical mechanisms. The seed extracts of Chrysophyllum albidum (CA) have been reported to possess anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, hypolipidemic, antihyperglycemic properties among others. As with other phytomedicines, there has been extensive body of evidences that have reported adverse effects due to their indiscriminate use owing (but not limited) to the perceived safety of plant-based formulations. There is therefore, a need to ascertain the pharmacological activities of this medicinal plant in addition to its toxicological profile in the near future. 76 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Medicine - Pharmacology, grade: A2, Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: Background: The focus of this work is to evaluate the effect of prophylactic antibiotics on patients' post-operative outcome as reflected in the reduction of the rate of surgical site infections and other possible adverse outcomes. A literature search was performed in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register published in the Cochrane Library, and CINAHL databases. Outcomes of interest included presence of post-operative surgical site infections and other possible outcomes. In accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, forty full-text articles comprising randomized controlled trials and observational studies were subjected to qualitative analysis. Data were extracted based on the PICO investigative model. In spite of the heterogeneity of the research design of several studies; there was a general consensus on the adverse outcomes of inappropriate administration of antibiotic prophylaxis. Various studies acknowledged the significance of the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the recommended prophylactic antibiotics (in relation to SSI risk factors) in improving or worsening the post-operative outcome of patients - notably, protection against surgical site infections. This study therefore strongly recommends on the adherence to global standard guidelines on antibiotics' prophylaxis in the conduct of perioperative procedures. More so, in view of the concerns raised about the standard guidelines, there is a need for more evidence-based principles on the use of antibiotics in surgery and continuous update of standard guidelines. 64 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Literature Review from the year 2019 in the subject Health - Public Health, grade: 4.5/5.0, Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: In today's world, there exists an overwhelming body of literature with respect to some of the most common causes of infection including viruses, bacteria, and fungi among others. The rising cases of virulence and pathogenicity of these infection-causing micro-organisms in healthcare facilities has led to a consistent increase in hospital -acquired infections. This review attempts to highlight the current knowledge about the role of the universal standard precaution guidelines for tackling the challenge of the rising records of nosocomial infections with respect to healthcare professionals. In 2014, there was wide spread panic all over the west coast of Africa from Liberia to Guinea, from Nigeria to Sierra Leone as a result of the re-emergence of Ebola, a viral hemorrhagic disease. According to the Online New Telegraph report (2017) titled 'Preventing re-emergence of Ebola', the relative low knowledge of the disease in some countries (in addition to other factors) had facilitated the spread of the viral disease within these African States. More importantly, the Nigerian case may be said to be particularly unique. In response to the call for action by the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Nigerian public had quickly adopted some precautionary measures, 'People used face masks, hand gloves, hand sanitizers, refused to even shake hands with or hug acquaintances and friends.' Unfortunately, it seemed that while the general public (even the least educated) had started taking measures against the contagion, a highly significant part of the population was left vulnerable. One of such grievous consequence led to the death of Dr. Stella Adadevoh (1956-2014), who had to make the ultimate sacrifice to avert a major pandemic similar to the death plague in Europe. Dr. Stella Adadevoh had correctly diagnosed the Liberian, Patrick Sawyer as the first case of Ebola at First Consultant Hospital, Lagos despite his insistence that he has a bad case of Malaria. 'Dr. Adadevoh tried to create an Isolation area, despite the lack of protective equipment, by creating a wooden barricade outside Patrick Sawyer's door.' The rest of the painful account rests in the annals of history. 96 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Health - Health system, grade: A2, Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: This paper spotlights several empirical thoughts on team development and conflict management in relation to the Nigerian healthcare setting. The subject of conflict is gaining more interest among stakeholders in all spheres of life. There's been various perspectives owing to the roles often played by conflicts at the national and international levels. The focus of this work; however, is limited to conflicts within an organization - specifically the healthcare organization in Nigeria.Team development has been studied and characterized by organizational theorists and administrators as it concerns organizational performance. In the healthcare setting, maintaining highly functional teams has been advocated for many reasons including (a) the prevention of avoidable adverse events partly due to inadequacy of communication channels among clinicians. (b) The avoidance of unnecessary waste and cost due to a lack of clarity in purpose. (c) Decreasing the risk of medical errors as a result of the incompetence among the team of healthcare professionals. In the Nigerian context, experts have also identified some barriers to effective team development. The Nigerian healthcare sector has perennially suffered from the outcomes of conflicts among various stakeholders that make up the overall healthcare system. In view of these negative consequences of such conflicts (for example industrial action leading to termination of healthcare services every year); there's been a rise in the phenomenon of medical tourism among certain privileged segments of the Nigerian society, leaving the majority of the population vulnerable. 112 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Health - Public Health, grade: B+ (70), Obafemi Awolowo University, language: English, abstract: In this discourse, the existing literature on the subjects of the pathophysiology of infertility and important findings on the use of allopathic and plant-based pharmacotherapy were evaluated. Finally, the application of the bioactive principles of turmeric and its mechanism of action in the treatment of male and female infertility were explored. Infertility from both anecdotal and empirical literature has been viewed as having a multiplicity of dimensions. With its status as a public health challenge, it has been estimated that over twenty-five percent of couples will seek help for infertility at some point during their relationship, which accounts for over 2 million office visits to health care providers annually. It is also interesting to note that infertility may have other far-reaching consequences, as it not only affects the couples' life only, but the total health care services and social environment. Various studies have linked infertility to certain emotional and social disturbances including mood disorders, criminality, and inadequacy in social interaction amongst infertile couples. From a socio-anthropological perspective, there have been discussions on the role of a number of factors on infertility. For instance; Wdowiak et al. reported a trend of lower sperm parameters (and male reproductive health) in today's men in comparison to those who lived more than fifty years ago. Additionally, the negative effect of the persistent presence of environmental toxicants such as arsenic on the reproductive system in the recent years has also been implicated on the issue of infertility. 116 pp. Englisch.
