Libro
4to. 128pp., introductory essay, b/w and color illustrations and photographs, list of plates, exhibition lists. A unique collaboration between artist Wunderlich and photographer Szekessy, who were married to each other. In these 'transpositions,' intriguing nude photographs by Szekessy are juxtaposed with Wunderlich's versions, or replies, in the form of paintings and prints. The result is a fascinating dialogue. Raddatz's introduction and some contextual and art historical references enrich the experience. He writes, 'The sum of history is a catastrophe. A picture of melancholy' - and quotes Walter Benjamin: 'That which we call progess is this storm.' Published in German as PaulWunderlich und Karin Szekessy / Correspondence. Please note: Oversized volume: this book will require additional shipping for destinations outside the US. Please write for details; we will ship at cost. Boards. Light shelfwear. Very good.

Condición: Near fine overall. First edition of this French-language limited edition of Wunderlich's startling lithographs. Beautiful overview of the German artist's lithographic work from the 1960s and early '70s. With a style instantly recognizable by its Dali-esque elongated and distorted human figures, full of overt and covert references to earlier artworks, and characterized by a singular and explicit erotic sensibility (for which Wunderlich was accused of indecency by the Hamburg authorities of 1960).Introduced by Raddatz, who explores the ideas of horror he perceives at the heart of Wunderlich's art. 14'' x 11.5''. Original red cloth. In original pictorial dust jacket, in red cloth slipcase. Limited edition in French of 1060, with an additional 30 copies hors commerce; this copy no. HC. 14. With 50 numbered plates and three additional original lithographs. 157, [3] pages. Faint spot to fore-edge. Minor edgewear to dust jacket and slipcase.
