An analysis of the frescoes of the Dura-Europos synagogue, excavated in 1932. Rachel Wischnitzer argues that the Jews of Dura-Europos believed themselves to be descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes and that many of the frescos are reflections of a messianic ideology. Rachel Wischnitzer served as the curator of the Jewish Museum in Berlin and art editor Rimon and Milgrom.
