First edition. First edition. 8vo. Inscribed on the front free fly leaf by the author. Pictorial burnt orange cloth, titles printed in black on the front cover and spine, 334 pp., frontispiece [portrait], preface, introduction, illustrated from photographs, portraits, plates. Ex Libris of the noted collector, Thomas Wayne Norris, with his bookplate on the front pastedown sheet. Carl Wheat called Norris a "discriminating collector of Californiana." With an introduction by Major-General James C. Harbord, Assistant Chief of Staff, United States Army. Homer Webster Wheeler (1848-1930) served at various posts throughout the West, including Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming, where he was involved in the Plains Indian Wars. He also took several trips on the Great Plains with famed scouts Will Comstock, Buffalo Bill Cody, and Wild Bill Hickock. Wheeler became a colonel in March 1911 and retired in Los Angeles that September. Herd 2500 says "Scarce," Six Guns 2376 says "Scarce." A very good bright, tight copy.
