Ex-library, quarto hardcover (VG) in d/w (VG); all our specials have minimal description to keep listing them viable. They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples. Ordering more than one book may reduce your overall postage costs.

Hardcover. Condición: New. No Jacket. Knight, Hilary Ilustrador. 1st Edition. 1st ed. hardback with glazed pictorial boards, no dust jacket, not ex-library. It is new with no names, clean crisp white pages, tight binding and unmarked boards. Wonderful pictures that are the essence of Eloise - who is six and lives at The Plaza with Nanny and Skipperdee the dog. A new Eloise is a delight: just see how she wrecked the Venetian Ball. (great fold-out). Ignore abe's shipping estimate as I will charge shipping at cost - Australia Post rates.

First edition, first printing, of this immediately and perenially popular title. Thompson recalled that the book was first printed with "only a thousand copies the first time, just to see how it went" (Vanity Fair). The rest was history: "'Thursday evening first copies came off press. Friday morning at 9:30 people in the office who had taken home copies came in making considerable noise. Friday morning at 11:30 we ordered a second printing. Friday afternoon, Life magazine told us they are running a story on Eloise.'. Soon the book was selling 4,000 copies a week" (ibid.). Marie Brennar, "Kay and Eloise", Vanity Fair, December 1996, available online. Quarto. Original white boards, titles and vignette to spine and front board in red and black, pink illustrated endpapers. With dust jacket. Illustrated throughout in pink and black. Spine cocked, boards faintly soiled, extremities rubbed, neat repair to rear inner hinge, contents clean; jacket bright, spine panel and folds toned and lightly rubbed, a couple of closed tears and chips at edges, tape repair to verso, unclipped: a very good copy in like jacket.

First edition, first printing, inscribed by the illustrator on the verso of the front free endpaper, "For Katharine, from Hilary and ELOISE", with a pen drawing of the titular character underneath. Inscribed copies of the Eloise books do not usually feature original drawings. Unlike the first Eloise book (1955), this sequel features many celebrity appearances in Knight's illustrations, such as Richard Avedon Knight as Eloise's passport photographer and Lena Horne dining at a side-walk cafe. Thompson (1912-1998) did not allow the sequels to the first Eloise book to be reprinted during her lifetime. Tall quarto. Original red boards, titles and pictorial decoration to spine and front board in silver and black, pink illustrated endpapers. With dust jacket. Illustrated throughout in pink, blue, and black. Some light crayon marks to front cover, corners slightly worn, foxing to edges, occasional mark to contents; jacket spine toned, else bright, rear panel faintly soiled with short closed tear, bookseller's price label to front flap, unclipped: a very good copy in like jacket.
