Librería: Barry Cassidy Rare Books, Sacramento, CA, Estados Unidos de America
No Binding. Condición: Very Good. Original publisher's leaflet printed in black ink on beige paper. No date, circa 1913. 3" x 6." One leaf of paper folded in half vertically and printed on all four panels. One black-and-white portrait illustration of Horace Fletcher on front panel, complete. Leaflet is very clean and intact except for light age toning and spot of surface chipping on back panel that affects the word, "Blank," in "Order Blank." A Very Good copy. This is a promotional leaflet advertising a new book by Horace Fletcher, Fletcherism: What It Is; or, How I Became Young at Sixty, which was published by the Frederick A. Stokes Company. Horace Fletcher (1849-1919) was an American food faddist who advocated his concept of "Fletcherism" which is the extreme mastication or chewing of food before swallowing to the point that it is liquefied. Fletcher claimed that Fletcherism cured, among other ailments, alcoholism, anemia, appendicitis, and insanity. There is consensus in modern medical evaluations of Fletcherism that the method is a fad and can even be dangerous. However, Fletcherism was very popular in its time and is even practiced by some to this day. This leaflet briefly introduces Fletcher's book and also lists other books by him. On the back is an unfilled order form.

No Binding. Condición: Near Fine. Original publisher's leaflet printed in black ink on light beige paper. No date, circa 1913. 3 1/4" x 6." One leaf of paper printed on front and back. Leaflet is virtually pristine and intact except for light age toning, minuscule wear to extremities, and a small wrinkle in one of the upper corners. A Near Fine copy. This is a promotional leaflet advertising The Wine Press (1913) by Alfred Noyes (1880-1958), an English poet, playwright, novelist, and short story writer. Despite being portrayed as a militarist by critics of his time, Noyes was an ardent pacifist and only supported war if a country faced invasion or attack by an uncompromising opponent. The Wine Press is a long anti-war poem. Noyes wrote this poem in the time leading up to World War I when he saw that war was inevitable. Among Noyes's other anti-war literary works are The Last Man (1940) and If Judgment Comes (1941). This leaflet promotes The Wine Press with several positive reviews. An unfilled order form is in lower part of leaflet on back.
