Hardcover. Condición: Good+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Dust Jacket. Unknown (Reprint). Schillers' Complete Works in 10 Volumes. (10 volumes in 5 books). A lovely complete set of 5 Volumes bound in full contemporary burgundy leather with 3 double raised bands with gilt lines/decoration in between and titling in gilt. The Front AND Rear covers of EACH volume both have a central BRIGHT and SHINING GILT Insignia - The Royal Ordnance Arms - The Crest denoting an arm (strength) out of the mural crown (defence) grasping a Thunderbolt (Jove s weapon) , the arms modern weapons (16th century) in the form of cannons and shot and the supporters Cyclops, mythological artificers supporting (or making possible) the manufacture of these modern weapons, together with the Motto 'Sua Tela Tonanti'. Beneath this Crest on Each volume, on the front cover only, is written (in Bright Gilt) "AWARDED TO GENTn. CADET CHAs. E. HARVEY, for Proficiency in German. R. M. Academy, DECr. 1849." The inner dentelles are decorated in gilt and all edges are (rubbed) olivine to deter dust. All hinges tight. The edges of the volumes' spines are rubbed/scraped in a few places, the corner tips are slightly 'rubbed' but overall this is a lovely well-preserved set. Internally the volumes are a little dusty and foxed here and there, and Volume One has an old tiny, pin-prick sized, worm hole bored through from the front cover/inner edge of the spine and has worked it's way neatly through 2/3rd of the book at the inner edge of the pages, turning into a small 'T' shape here and there - but generally hardly noticable, but it is there. All volumes have plain yellow endpapers, front and back, all somewhat discoloured in the central area (old glue? ) , but NO Inscriptions in any books. All volumes have an Integral green ribbon bookmark. All volumes have scattered foxing & foxed patching, some areas heavily foxed, others much lighter - some blocks with nothing, but mainly the worst is to to the first and last few pages/sections, but also here and there in the body of the book. Volume 1 = Steel Engraved Tissue guarded b/w Portrait Frontispiece of Schiller (tissue guard & first few and last few pages quite foxed) . (xvi) + 423 pp + ( 7 = Second Book ) + 411pp. Volume 2 = (10) + 372 pp + ( 6 = Fourth Book ) + 520 pp - there is a Very light stain to the bottom corner of the last 200 pps, tapering (from the back to the front) to nothing. Volume 3 = (10) + 422 pp. + ( 6 - Sixth book ) + 441 pp. Volume 4 = (10) + 364 pp. + ( 6 - Eighth book ) + 466 pp. Volume 5 = (10) + 564 pp. + ( 6 - Tenth book ) + 465 pp. A VERY Handsome Set - with the added attraction of the Royal Military Academy connection. ( I wonder what became of Gentleman Cadet Charles E. Harvey. ? ). Images available on request. This is a very Heavy Set and MAY require extra postage depending on your location. ; Each Volume - Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall.
