The text includes an early history and the manufacture of fans as well as the materials employed in their making. Also included are the different types, various uses, arts applied to their making and legends concerning them. Offers lovely color plates of many kinds of fans with their many uses, including a war fan. The many illustrations are very informative and include dagger fan, a kitchen fan, roll-up, ladies' and presentation fans, and ones used by dancing girls, farmers, and umpires of polo and wrestling matches. Small stamp of ink or perforation on each plate- stamp covers small portion of corner of image. Hard Cover. Condición: Good Plus. First Edition. Burgundy binding with gilt lettering; 156pp plus errata page; b/w decorative lettering and tailpieces. Boards lightly marked with rubbing to corners, spine ends and spine edge; hinges just starting to crack; occasional spotting and smudge to pages; the untrimmed page edges are untidy towards the end of the book and two pages are unopened. The reverse of the front endpaper is signed Frances Birch, Jan 13th 1871, presumably a relative of the author, and another hand has written underneath 'My Great Aunt, Ralphs's Grate [sic] Great Aunt; there is also a slip of paper laid in signed 'Yours Truly, John O'Neill'. A scarce collection of poetry by the author of 'Fans of Japan' which includes 'Lady Leonore' and 'To the United Fatherland'. Ex-library, but hardly any markings to the text, which is attached to the covers with tape. Internally clean and bright, with plates present. Truly uncommon, with apparently just one physical copy found in OCLC.
