Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. Usual ex-library markings, with no dust jackets. Volume 1 (The Middle Ages) has 552 pp. with 48 illustrations and 36 plates, all in black and white, and a full-colour frontispiece. Bookshows slight edgewear, with lower front cover lightly bumped, and some tearing at gutters on ffep and in two spots between plates. Also upper half of back cover is sunned.Volume 2 has 587 pp. with index, 70 illustration and 52 plates, all in black and white, and a full-colour frontispiece. Volume 2 also has 6 appendices: Tables of Expenditure; The Accounts of the Clerks of the King's Works; An Appendix to Chapter VI (concerning the Welsh castles); Memorandum about the Repair to Westminster Palace, 1307-11; Principle Offices Connected with the Kings' Works to 1485; Notes on the Plans. The Plans themselves are housed in a box cleverly crafted to match volumes 1 and 2, Folded plans include Dover Castle, the Tower of London, The Medieval Palace of Westminster, and Windsor Castle. The Plan Box has the most edgewear, perhaps because it is not as sturdy as its book counterparts. The plans themselves do not seem to have been removed or unfolded frequently. Heavy set of volumes may require additional shipping.
