With the publishers leather bookplate of the original subscriber, Frederick C. Blodi, M.D., a famous ophthalmologist in his own right. In publisher's maroon morocco covers with elaborate design in gilt and two raised bands to spine. Folio (10 ¾"x 8 ?"). Condition: About Fine. Contains parallel text in English and the original German. With 38 full pages of plates at the end of the text. *** Hermann Pagenstecher (1844-1932) was a German ophthalmologist who, aside from treating Queen Victoria, was famous for continuing his brother's work in pioneering cataract surgery.

Contents crisp and tight, no inscriptions, no pen-marks, just a publisher's leather bookplate bearing a former owner's name. Size: 280mm x 225mm. Reprint of the original 1875 edition. Text in German. Well illustrated. Thus a handsome book in very presentable condition.
