First editions. Two volumes (complete). Original cloth. Lack dust jackets. Volume One is edited by George Orwell and Reginald Reynolds, Volume Two is edited by Reynolds alone. Volume One has an introduction by Orwell, Volume Two has an introduction by A. J. P. Taylor. The color of the cloth used is different in the two volumes, vol. one is bound in brown cloth, vol. two in rust-colored cloth. The spine of vol. one is bright and readable, the spine of vol. two not very readable due to fading. Title stamping on spines is typographically uniform except for the different Roman numerals I and II. Very good condition overall, vol. one only has identical rectangular discoloration around the margin on both front and back free endpapers, which must then be due to a chemical response to the facing pastedown endpapers. Frontispiece and reproductions of original pamphlet title pages in each volume. Priority Mail only on foreign orders. There will be no extra item charges for shipments of more than one item whenever possible.

First editions, first impressions thus, of this collection of pamphlets published over the last five hundred years. George Orwell edited and contributed the introduction to volume I, which was published in November 1948. His death in January 1950 led to A. J. P. Taylor replacing him as joint editor and writing the introduction for volume II, which was published in 1951. Two volumes, octavo. Original brown cloth, spines lettered in gilt. With dust jackets. Spine titles of volume II dulled, a little spotting to edges of text blocks, endpapers, and occasionally to contents. An excellent set in the lightly rubbed and toned jackets with some nicks and short splits.
