After the war he served Grant as his personal secretary when Grant was president. Porter also wrote the classic work Campaiging with General Grant . He raised the funds to build Grant's tomb and was Ambassador to France from 1897 to 1905. The biography is written by Porter s daughter. Very good copy of the first edition in a good- dust jacket protected by mylar. The book has minor shelf wear, a prior owner's label on the inside front cover and a little discolorization on the spine from the back of the dust jacket. The dust jacket has edge wear, wear to the spine and the top 1/2 inch of the spine is missing. 390 pages.
