VG/None. First edition. Light tan colored woven cloth with stamped red lettering and rules on front cover and spine, stamped silhouette of castle on front cover. Contains a color frontispiece by Jessie Willcox Smith (with printed caption underneath stating 'In Storyland') plus numerous full page B&W block silhouette illustrations by the author Ruth Low (not memorable). The color frontispiece 'In Storyland' originally appeared in Feb 1905 McClures, then facing page 78 (without a printed caption) in Small Maynard's 1909 Chronicles of Rhoda, and then as the frontispiece in Small Maynard's 1918 Little Folks Annual. Small Maynard did not credit J.W. Smith in Rhoda, and on the title page of In Storyland it only credits Low (don't know why they didn't mention her name either place unless it saved them money). This book is quite tight but the cloth is susceptible to soiling and it has both overall light soiling plus many darker smaller and a few larger (up to 1/4") spots as well. Internally the book has no writing, but the paper is not the greatest and has some foxing (or is it soiling) on the page edges but not internally. One of the Ruth Low illustrations is loose. But having said all this, this is a very rare Jessie Willcox Smith book that does not appear in Nudelman, most probably because Low was apparently not a very successful write. She has 3 titles (total of 5 books) listed on ABE at the time of this writing, all 'bunnytail' type titles, and none sells for much. This is a book for the serious Jessie Willcox Smith collector who is seeking completeness. TO SEE MORE PICTURES AND ADDITIONAL SPECIAL ITEMS, VISIT OUR BOOKSELLER's HOMEPAGE.
