Felicia Lamport [1916-1999] was a well- known poet and satirist and she brings to bear her trenchant wit and devious wordplay here in a series of poems (and one or two short essays) targeting the faddish preoccupations of the intelligentsia of the day. Edward Gorey [1925-2000] artist and illustrator who described his work as literary nonsense in the tradition of Carroll and Lear, but the Gothic edge and dark humour to his work marks him out as a true American original.
