Francis Yeats-Bown is best known as author of Lives of a Bengal Lancer (1935 Hollywood movie version) and Lancer at Large, the memoirs in which he details his life in India as a British cavalry officer who joined the Bengal Lancers at the age of 18 in 1903, through his capture by the Turks in Iraq during World War I, his posting to the Northwest Frontier (now Pakistan & Afghanistan), hunting & polo, & the study of yoga which began early and occupied his later years. Francis Charles Claypon Yeats-Brown (1886-1944), soldier, writer and mystic.
