Libro
Original Cloth. Condición: Poor. Bacon, J.H.; Copping, Harold; Davie, Howard; Browne, Gordon Ilustrador. Second Edition. Undated reprint probably published circa 1920. A larger version including 20 stories was originally published as 'The Children's Shakespeare' in 1897 and then as 'Beautiful Stories from Shakespeare' in 1907. Also published by Tuck under the title 'Shakespeare Stories for Children' and there may be other variant issues of Nesbit's Shakespeare stories. This edition contains 11 stories along with 'When Shakespeare was a Boy' by Furnivall. Copiously illustrated in black and white by Copping with 7 colour plates by Bacon, Davie and Browne. The boards have quite a bit of edge and surface wear with heavy rubbing to the corners. Webbing fully exposed after the front free endpaper with the binding very slack. The frontispiece is not detached but is very loose as are several other sections of the text block. Page 17 has a tear in the edge. Page 31 has the bottom corner torn off. The black and white illustrations at pages 55,59 and 76 have all been coloured in - quite neatly and well. Pages 61 to 64 have a few tears to the edge. Page 77 and the plate at page 78 are actually loose and page 103 has a small tear to the bottom edge. The pages are worn at the edges with a few stains and marks but are generally unmarked.
