Au XVIIe Siècle, il y avait deux carabiniers dans chaque compagnie de cavalerie de l'armée française. En 1690, Louis XIV ordonna de réunir en compagnies tous les carabiniers d?un même régiment, et en 1693, ces compagnies furent rassemblées en un corps qu?on appela le "Régiment Royal des Carabiniers". En 1693, Louis de Rouvroy, duc de Saint-Simon achète le Royal-Carabiniers. En 1698, le régiment se composait de cinq brigades, chacune de huit compagnies de vingt hommes. En 1758, à la demande du Roi, le régiment royal des carabiniers prit le nom de "Carabiniers-comte de Provence", parce que le comte de Provence en devint le mestre de camp, il était alors âgé de 3 ans. Le comte de Gisors, Louis-Marie Fouquet de Belle-Isle, en assure alors le commandement réel durant quelques semaines et meurt à la Bataille de Krefeld. En 1779 le régiment de carabiniers prit le nom de "Carabiniers de Monsieur" et changea d'uniforme. Rare. cat. CCFR seulement 2ex. (Rennes, Arsenal).
relativement à l'opération de la nouvelle formation du corps des Carabiniers de Monsieur, que Sa Majesté a déterminée par son ordonnance en date du 17 mars 1788. Du 1er avril 1788. Versailles, Imprimerie Royale, 1788, in-4, dérelié. 8 pp. imprimées sur papier bleuté. Créé en 1693, le Corps des Carabiniers de Monsieur était un régiment de cavalerie, dont le comte de Provence était le mestre de camp depuis 1758 ; la réforme de 1788 consista à lui faire former à lui seul une brigade de cavalerie composée de deux régiments. Il prenait le 23e rang parmi les régiments de cavalerie. Il était sous les ordres d?un seul et même chef, qui avait le titre de colonel-lieutenant inspecteur. Le Colonel-propriétaire était Monsieur (frère du roi, comte de Provence). Le colonel-lieutenant inspecteur était le comte de Chabrillan, lieutenant général. Chaque régiment était composé de quatre escadrons ; le premier régiment était composé des 1er, 3e, 5e et 7e escadrons ; le 2e des 2e, 4e, 6e et 8e escadrons.

The title page features a stunning graphic bearing the LM initials and a graphic with signature of who appears to be the author paying homage to Ms. Monnier- "Clombe [?] D'Orba Carabinier Van Doo" Beautiful calligraphy, a small number of hand drawn illustrations and a full 36 pages of French language composition. Excellent example of the art. Spine cap is missing, the hinges are cracked but otherwise G. Size: 9 X 6 OBLONG. French.
