Eileen Thalenberg wrote that article, hers is pairedwith one by Theodore Allen Heinrich - entitled `Sculpture for Hercules: documenta 6 '. 14 pages at the center cover the Paris painter : Pierre Cecil Puvis de Chavannes (1824 - 1898), His work is compared to that of Paul Gaugin and Gustave Moreau. Most illustrations are in b/w but some are in colour. Learn also about Fletcher Starbuck and Jack Shadbolt. Cond : Paper wrapper is white with black lettering. The front cover graphic is a reproduction of the Puvis de Chavannes oil entitled `The Magdalen in the Desert ' (1870). Edges and corners are sharp as is spine. Light general soiling. No names, marks, creases, tears, nor stains. Tight in binding. Quote (p. 17) : ". they are interesting architecturally (the roof domes do not depend on the support of the walls for their shape), when seen altogether in context they have less to do with architecture than with landscape. As well as the strong physical sense of materials, the graphic manner . ." Size: 4to.
