Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. 8vo. Pp. 129. Black cloth boards with a blue paper spine label lettered in black. Sci-fi play by the author of the novel 'Hunger and Love.' Light offsetting from jacket flaps to the endpapers, else a fine copy in a very good dust jacket, which is not price-clipped. The spine panel of the dust jacket is sunned and chipped to the base and top, there is also some chipping to the corners of the front and back panels. The cloth binding is fresh and new, as is the text block, all clean and unworn internally. This text receivedconsiderable attention upon first publication because of George Bernard Shaw's favourable comments about it. The play has come into recent prominence through its current topicalit. as a " complex representation of a posthuman existence, . . . the unusual generic characteristics of the play lead to the suggestion that Brain may be regarded as a utopian bildungsroman whose main focus is the life of an idea in society." "A Brain is constructed in the Sahara Desert - presently It grows larger than the Desert-out of pure mechanism, by the whole of the human race, It controls the whole activities and does all the thinking of the world. Ultimately a star collides with the sun while man is still tied within the limits of the solar system. The Brain describes the approaching process, Its helplessness in comparison with Its former omnipotent power over the world. It deplores mankind's delay in not co-operating earlier, which makes it impossible now to escape the catastrophe. It has visions, premonitions of what might have been.".
