Faint foxing on spine, extending about half an inch into the front cover. Light discoloration and a few scuffs on back cover, likely due to shelf wear. Right above that sticker imprint is the stamped date "Dec. 18. 1973" in thin green letters. Corners, crown and foot of spine lightly bumped. Title page dated 1972. Copyright page dated only 1972. 143 pages. Features maps on front and back attached endpapers, black and white glossy photographs on almost every page, glossary of relevant terms, and recommended further reading. First two pages also bear the "Dec. 18. 1973" stamp in the same location. Title page also stamped "A 505258" in black and "Surplus Duplicate" in purple with a crest, each at the top right corner. Small smudge of black ink of back free endpaper. Pages otherwise clean and bright, images in pristine condition. Binding very shallowly cracked along front and back hinges. Hard Cover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Edition. First edition. Chips, tears and creases to jacket edges, jacket soiled and foxed. Page ridges foxed. 1981 Hard Cover. viii, 239 pp. This is the story of marching men and clashing ships, of suffering, and of occasional heroic deeds. As in wars past, and for similar reasons, Lake Champlain and the region surrounding Lower Canada, Vermont, and Upstate New York became one of the major theaters of military action. For two and a half years, people in the region saw armies raised, defeated, and disbanded. They witnessed their own militia repeatedly called out to protect the border areas and to serve as adjuncts to regular army units. Despite a series of disheartening military reverses, loss of life, and destruction of property, civilians maintained a remarkable degree of resilience. They fled if battle threatened but soon returned to pick up the threads of their lives. Everest?s story shows us a war in microcosm and allows us a close-up experience of the small events that helped shape the destiny of a youthful and growing nation.
