White cloth covers with black illustrations to the cover and black titles to the spine. A Very Good+ copy, a solid binding with a clean, unmarked text. Spine end bumping with the previous owner's name written on the front free end paper. The DJ is unclippe spine browning and cover edgewear, small piece missing of off the front cover top edge. "The man in question is Wilfrid "Wop" May - noted on the record as the pilot who led the famous Red Baron on his last merry chase before Roy Brown shot him down, and probably less well known for his pioneering flights into the Canadian hinterland. His exploits ranged from delivering medical supplies and mail into the far North during the 1920s and 30s, to his aerial reconnaissance in the hunt for the "Mad Trapper." Illustrations by William Wheeler ; B&W Illustrations; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 170 pages; This is a light novelization of the life of Wilfrid 'Wop' May. "Born at Carberry, Manitoba on 20 March 1896, during the First World War he was the pilot pursued by the "Red Baron" when the German ace was killed. May shot down 13 German aircraft during the war, eluding the "Red Baron" in the process, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1918. He became one of Canada’s leading bush pilots in the post-war era, and received an Order of the British Empire in 1935. May helped set up the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in 1939. He died near Provo, Utah on 21 June 1952, from injuries sustained in a rock-climbing accident.". Nº de ref. de la librería 15767
