INSCRIBED in ink on 3rd free ep. "W. Morris Esq from H. Buxton Forman". Forman's brother Alfred was the Translator of the work. Wagner was the author of the libretto, as well as the composer. Morris's violent denunciation of Forman's gift is cited in Kelvin 216, 12 November ".the idea of a sandy-haired German tenor tweedledeeing over the unspeakable woes of Sigurd.I wish to see Wagner uprooted." Alfred Forman sent a copy of his translation of Die Walkure to Wagner, who encouraged him to complete all 4 parts. Die Walkure was first performed in Munich in 1870. The first performance of Der Ring des Nibelungen, including Die Walkure and the other 3 parts, was in August 1876 at Wagner's Bayreuth Festival. Three of the parts were published in English in 1873 and the last in 1875. There is no set of all 4 libretti in English held by any library worldwide. N° de ref. de la librería 237497
