Edited by Hambleton Tapp and James C. Klotter. 8vo. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. xvi, 298pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Fine. A tight and pristine first edition of this account by an officer with the Third Kentucky Infantry Regiment -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to the inner flyleaf is a Typed Letter Signed from Tapp, 1p, 8½" X 11", Lexington, KY, 1960 March 10. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). On "Kentucky Civil War Round Table" letterhead, Tapp writes this fellow Civil War Round Table officer (Gates was long a fixture of the New York City group). Very good. Original mailing folds. "The little notes you send are always interesting and most welcome. The latest one, relating to honoring Dr. Frederick Hill Meserve, was quite stimulating, because it gave me the idea that many, or all, of the Round Tables might in some way honor the distinguished octogenarian." Signed simply "Ham" in black ballpoint. Tapp (1922-92) was a noted and prolific author and editor of Kentucky histories as well as chairman of the Kentucky Civil War Centennial Commission.
