Título: Typed Note Signed / Printed Ticket.
This Indiana banker was also owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates (among other Big League baseball teams) and a politico, having been named Chairman of the Democratic National Committee by President Truman. TNS, 1p, 6" X 9", Washington, DC, 1952 August 12. Addressed to Dr. Karl Meyer (1886-1972, world famed surgeon, medical superintendent and surgeon-in-chief of Cook County Hospital from 1914 to 1967). Near fine. Two faint horizontal original folds. Printed ticket, heavy stock 5" X 2 3/4", printed by E.A. Wright Bank Note Co. of Philadelphia, July 1952. Very good. Faintest of edgewear. Original envelope present. On Democratic National Committee letterhead, McKinney thanks the famed physician "for your assistance on the Chicago Convention Committee. Your cooperation in serving as Chairman of the Medical and First Aid Committee was greatly appreciated." Large and bold full signature in blue ink. The week-long convention had ended just two weeks prior, with Governor Adlai E. Stevenson coming out on top as the Democratic challenger (together with vice presidential candidate John J. Sparkman, senator from Alabama) to the Republican candidate, Dwight D. Eisenhower. Accompanied by a choice printed ticket to this same convention, heavy stock 5" X 2 3/4", printed by E.A. Wright Bank Note Co. of Philadelphia, July 1952. Very good. Faint edgewear. Ornately engraved almost entirely in black (with "Good All Sessions / Doorkeeper" in red at center), this ticket admitted the bearer to the Gate 4 Section. Elaborate decorative border, full-length engraved likeness of a statue of Thomas Jefferson at left and facsimile signature of McKinney at lower right. Verso bears large decorative device with American Eagle at center printed entirely in green. Also present is the ticket's original printed "Doorkeeper" envelope with "Democratic National Convention / International Amphitheatre / Chicago, Illinois / July, 1952" printed at upper left and a few pencilled jottings by Meyer on it. Though not marked in any way, this was the actual ticket that Dr. Meyer used to attend the convention. Ironically, presidential candidate Stevenson soon had McKinney unseated as DNC chairman and replaced by Stephen Mitchell, who had run his 1948 gubernatorial campaign. N° de ref. de la librería 40380
