FIRST EDITION. 8 vo. Contemp. three-quarter calf with marbled boards, rebacked, the binding signed'Hector Bossange, A Paris.' xxiv, 186 pp. Eleven folding engraved plates. The COPY of the important American chemist, Josiah P. Cooke (1827-94), Erving professor of chemistry and mineralogy at Harvard, and mentor and collaborator of Theodore W. Richards (1868-1928), the 1914 Nobel laureate in chemistry. The signed binding is characteristic of the French books Cooke obtained while in Europe buying chemicals and apparatus. A nearly fine copy. This treatise considers geometric methods applied to all types of practical measurement including levelling, surveying, the drawing of plot plans, taking elevations, perimeters, surface areas, and volumes.
