Xix, [1], 331, [1] pages + frontispiece (photogravure portrait) + 40 plates (inc. 1 colour & 6 photogravures) + folding colour map + 16 pages advertisements. Blue-grey cloth boards with gilt lettering and vignette on front board. Dimensions: 10 3/8" by 7 1/4". Top edges gilt. "Presentation Copy" rubber stamp on title page. Re-cased with most of the original spine laid down (At the head of the original spine cloth there is a 1" by 1" chip and a 2 1/2" by 1" chip, with loss to the title lettering. At the tail of the original spine cloth there is a 1" by 3/8" chip) . Original endpapers preserved with tissue paper strengthening at gutters. Edges of boards rubbed with some loss of cloth at corners. Repairs to tears along two folds of folding map at rear. Owner's inscriptions on front free endpaper dated 1909 and 1931. 1/2" tear repaired in edge of front free endpaper. Moderate foxing on the endpapers and preliminary leaves. Some foxing throughout. Plates generally clean. Occasional marginal notations in pencil.
