Editorial: New York: Munn & Co. 1874

Año de publicación: 1874

Pictorial Cover. Very Good First Edition - Original Issue. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. An original issue of 16 pages dated March 14, 1874 -- Thomas Edison was only 27 years old when this was published and he was awarded the following patents - On page 172 it is noted that on February 10, 1874 the following patents were issued to T. A. EDISON (1) patent # 147,313 for "Telegraph,Chemical" (2) patent # 147,311 for "Telegraph,Electric" (3) patent # 147,314 for "Telegraph,Circuit", (4) patent # 147,312 for "Telegraph Perforator", this is a historic event and highly desireable to collectors of Edison's work and scientific events -- Other items of note with engravings are: Front page "New and Gigantic Telescope, Designed by Daniel C. Chapman", pages 162 & 163 "On the Motion and Sensation of Sound", plus many others -- As always the pages of advertisements are fascinating -- The publisher proclaims their publication to be "A Weekly Journal of Practical Information, Art, Science, Mechanics, Chemistry, and Manufactures". -- An excellent opportunity for the collector and researcher. -- Frank Luther Mott, winner of The Pulitzer Prize for his History of American Magazines, states that "The Scientific American had a significance--at least for its first sixty or seventy years--unapproached in kind and effect by any other periodical" -- This paper is technically referred to as a periodical, actually it is a Historical Document, recording events at the time of their occurence. ---- Historical Events Are Never More Exciting Than When You Read Them From The Day They First Occurred And Were Reported In Newspapers and Magazines ----.
