Editorial: Houghton, Mifflin and Company

Año de publicación: 1882

Encuadernación: Hardcover

Condición del libro: Very Good

Edición: First Edition.

Signed Boston and New York, 1882. 8vo, green publisher's illustrated cloth, 520 pp. First American edition, later issue, lacking period after 1881 on copyright page. Inscribed by Judge David Davis to his (future?) wife Adeline Burr: "To Addie Burr, From Judge David Davis - ". The somewhat formal nature of the inscription leaves open the possibility that this was given during his courtship (they were married in 1883). With a small bookseller stamp of Robert Beall, Washington, D.C., on front pastedown. A very good copy of the book with some light wear to covers. Text block excellent, binding sound. An attractive and unique early edition. Davis autographs are quite uncommon. "Davis was neither a brilliant thinker nor a charismatic leader. His judicial career, particularly his Supreme Court tenure, is remembered primarily for his opinion in the Milligan case. His fame rested largely on his association with Lincoln, which continued even after Lincoln's death as Davis served as administrator of his estate. Yet in an age when party politics mattered, Davis was an acknowledged master of party organization and electoral management. " - ANB. N° de ref. de la librería 15070
