The music editor is at pains to emphasise the specifically Gaelic nature & qualities of the melodies contained in this collection, some being traditional, some being adapted.Loosely laid in is an A.L.S. from the Rev. Malcolm Macleod of the John Knox Church in Glasgow, the editor of this work,to Lady Elspeth Campbell of Argyll, presenting the book to her at the behest of Captain G.I.Campbell of Succoth " as it may not be easy to get a copy there.".Also loosely laid in is an A.L.S. to Lady Elspeth from Jennie Given, outlining the recital of old Scottish & Gaelic songs that she will be giving in Minard & Inverary, saying that she has herself revived some of the older, humorous Lowland songs,& that there will be Gaelic songs in her recital where she will use the clarsach as well as a piano. She also lists the names of other singers she hopes to gather in for the recital at Inverary. The corners of the boards are lightly bumped & rubbed, otherwise an excellent copy.Pages xiv,[ii],1-175.Uncommon.
