Año de publicación: 1794
Condición del libro: Very Good
Edición: 1st Edition
FIRST EDITION, provincial reprint with added plates. 8 vo. Old boards. Uncut and unopened. xxxii, 224, 27 pp. Three folding engraved plates. A very good, crisp copy. The original edition of this important document of metrification was published at Paris in the same year but with only one plate. A number or provincial reprints (Macon, Toulouse, Marseille) and an abridgment appeared enhanced with two additional interesting plates, both by "Banin, Balancier Mécanicién au Marché neuf en la Cité No. 50, A Paris". Both plates are concentric conversion scales which are to be read with the aid of a central thread indicator. The first converts new time to old as adopted by the Convention Nationale, the second converts new weight to the different weights used in the Republic. Heralds of Science 113 cites the Macon reprint, which is identical to the present one: "The metric system was one of the few permanent social reforms that stemmed from the violent French Revolution. .the system became compulsory in France in 1801."
