Biografía del autor: I grew up in the small northern Utah town of Fielding, with a population of about 400. I am the Youngest of six children born to my parents, Gordon and Doris Smith. My mother is a wonderful cook and I owe any cooking skill I have to her. My family loves to camp and loves to cook, so I guess I was destined to be introduced to Dutch oven cooking. Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed cooking outdoors. I remember making mud pies with my cousins, and mine always had to have some sort of a decoration or filling of leaves or berries of some sort. Before long I had branched out into mud tacos and mud burgers. I was the Queen Of Cooking with Mud ( and thus received the nickname Mud Pie Marla). These were my first outdoor cooking experiences, and you're probably glad to know that I have come a long way since then. My husband and I received a Dutch oven as a wedding present from my parents. For the first year we cooked nothing but Dutch oven chicken and Potatoes because we didn't dare try anything else. We camped almost every weekend so we were getting really tired of chicken and potatoes. We soon learned that a dutch oven was more forgiving than we thought and began experimenting. Before long, we were enjoying Dutch oven pizza, stir fry, and countless other dishes. I was introduced to Camp Chef, a company out of Logan Utah, that manufactures and sells Outdoor cookers designed for Dutch oven cooking and other types of outdoor cooking. They have attachments for barbecue grilling and griddle frying, to name a few. I became very interested in their company because it really simplified my Dutch oven cooking and it also expanded my options for outdoor cooking. The end result is a cook book titled Camp Chef Outdoor Cooking Guide, designed to go with the products they sell. Since then I have cooked at retailer grand openings, anniversary sales and countless other outdoor events. My second book is Favorite Utah Pioneer Recipes, published by Horizon Publishers. I now reside with my husband and three children in North Ogden, Utah, and one of our favorite things to do is enjoy the great outdoors. Recipes are guides, not rules, so use your creativity and don't let outdoor cooking intimidate you. And whatever you do, don't eat chicken and potatoes for a year like we did.
