223 pages. NOT ex-library. RARE BOOK. A comprehensive look at the New York City schools in the early 1900s. Includes chapters on the origin and development of the schools, what they teach, the present trends in teaching, appointment and promotion of teachers, salary schedules and conditions, the administrative and departmental organization of the schools, and an alphabetical list of all teachers. The book is in sturdy cloth-covered boards, gilt-lettered front and spine. A nice, sound and solid copy with no significant flaws, shows only brief, occasional, minor signs of use. The book is clean, square and straight, extremely firm and tight in its binding, no pages loose, missing, or torn. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners are unbumped. the textblock unbroken and still snugged tightly to the backstrip. The pages are faintly age-toned, but are clean and unsoiled, all text sharp and legible. There is no writing, underlining, or highlighting in the book. The spine is somewhat darkened from age, and their is also a touch of age-toning at the board edges, but the cloth binding shows virtually no wear, has no tears, no fraying, no wear-throughs.
