FIRST UK EDITION BY GEORGE G. HARRAP & CO., 1958. 8vo., pp. 9-215 plus preface to the English Edition. Line drawings in the text by Georg von Lutken. Original red cloth, spine light-faded o/w sound/VG. Interior clean/NEAR FINE. My Golden Road from Samarkand is written with the simplicity and directness of a first-hand narrative and is very gripping. Jascha Golowanjuk escaped from Russia and the terrors of the revolution with his family in 1919, and this is the story of that escape. He chose the word "golden" in the title not only to for the many miles he and his family travelled over the yellow-gold sands of the desert, but also for "that most precious of all possessions, freedom." The terror of the revolution is palpable. He describes what they went through as being "tossed about, poor and helpless grains of sand in the big sandstorm that was the Russian Revolution." Translated from the original Swedish by Frances Hogarth-Gaute. N° de ref. de la librería 10451

Descripción de la librería: We specialise in travel, adventure and exploration books published between about 1900 and 1960, loosely referred to as post-imperialist travel writing. Although most books are the first-hand experiences of their authors, we have included books of general interest about a particular area or incident and autobiographies and biographies by and of famous travellers or adventurers. You will also find some books we consider of particular merit outside our somewhat arbitrary date range. Mark Culme-Seymour Proprietor
