~ Illustrated with 47 color plates & 8 color maps (5 folding) ~ Italian Navy Lieutenant Giacomo Bove's journey through the Southern Patagonia. The Argentine Geographic Institute sponsored the trip and Bove was appointed its chief scientist. The expedition left Buenos Aires on 18 December 1881 and initially sailed to the Isla de los Estados to arrive in the strait of Magellan. From here the party split and Bove, along with local scientists Spegazzini and Lovisato, boarded the schooner "San Jose" to cross the Fueguinos channels; thought in the Beagle channel, they shipwreck. Rescued and transferred to Punta Arenas by the English cutter "Allen Gardiner" later the group headed for the Santa Cruz River, in whose mouth was the ship "Cabo de Hornos" on which board they returned to Buenos Aires, arriving 1st September 1882.
