Imperial quarto (380 × 280 mm). Original japon boards, white cloth backstrip, printed paper label to front board, Publisher's prospectus with engraved image hand-printed in black, blue and gold to front laid in, together with an advertisement for the exhibition of Guthrie's original drawings at J & E Bumpus, London, February 1931. Irregular toning and a few minor markings to japon, boards slightly bowed, corners rubbed, free endpapers tanned, occasional light spotting chiefly restricted to margins with images spared where affecting plates, light offsetting. A very good copy with bright plates. 12 engraved plates hand-printed in colour of which 4 double-page and including frontispiece printed on grey paper. First and only edition, limited to 60 copies signed by the author on the limitation page, this copy number 14. Plates depict settings for inter alia Milton's Comus, O'Neill's Emperor Jones and the mystery play Christ and the Three Maries. Baker, Dramatic Bibliography (1968), p. 91.
