Vol. XXVII is a reprint edition by the History Company of San Francisco published in 1886. This volume covers 1543-1800 and is in fair condition, with over all wear, front board loose, shelf wear, moisture stain to covers, endpapers discolored, the title label partially removed from the spine. Volume XXVIII is an apparant first ed. published by Bancroft of San Francisco in 1884. This volume covers 1800-1846 and is in good condition with some over all wear, smaller moisture stain to convers, endpapers discolored and a pencilled note on the title page. Jumbo octavos, [23cm /9.25inches], full cowhide-coloured calf with gilt-embossed ebony spine lables. Bottom label is M. A. Luce, a Prominent San Diego attorney and the original subscriber. Volume I (1543-1800), pp xxxii, 735. Illustrated w/ 1 8 by 10 inch Folded Map roughly 50 fascimilie maps in the text. Concerned with the modern day Pacific Northwest from the eariest European voyages in the 16th Century to the Trans-contnental expedition of Alexander Mackenzie (1789-1793) . Volume II (1800-1846), pp. xvi, 768, indexed. illustrated with ten fascimilie maps in the text. Deals with the Anglo-American sea otter trade as well as overland trappers. The two volumes are citied by Bancroft's biographer, John Walton Caughey: ".deserve consideration as our broadest survey of the fur trade on this continent." The bindings are faily sound, however the outside rear hinge on volume II is cracked reinforced with arches paper on the inside.Please feel free to inquire as to particulars and/or additional photographs.
