Año de publicación: 1903
Condición del libro: Very good
Washington: Government Printing Office, 1903. ,891pp. Original red blindstamped cloth, spine gilt. Cloth a bit rubbed and stained. Internally clean and tightly bound. A very good copy. This volume contains the documents submitted by the United States in their Hague Tribunal case against Mexico in the matter of the Pious Fund of the Californias. The fund was established in the 17th century to aid missions in Baja and Alta California. In 1842, the Mexican President, Santa Anna, sequestered the funds, promising to pay the interest, which he did until California was ceded to the United States at the end of the Mexican War in 1848. The United States government sought to get the funds for the church fathers by taking Mexico before an international tribunal, which ruled in 1902 that the Mexican government owed nearly $1.5 million. COWAN, pp.491-492 (another issue). HART, COMPANION TO CALIFORNIA, p.331. N° de ref. de la librería 114
