Near Fine 9" x 12" black pictorial gatefold wraps featuring a photograph of the London Water Ring Main, cycling during the final stages of construction, to the cover, white lettering to front cover, spine, and back cover, very slight bumping to tips and bottom of spine, else fully intact, showing no other shelf wear, clean, tightly bound, and internally pristine. 93pp. + 11pp. replete with full color and black-and-white imagery in accompanying advertising and illustrating the articles. Includes an Introduction by Sebastiano Brandolini and 13 other articles contributed by Robert Thorne, Ken Garland, Andrew Saint, Giles Oliver, Neil Roth, Gordon Hafter, Alan A Jackson, and Ellis Hillman with articles focusing on the London Underground, underground suburbs, and the metropolitan infrastructure in the new millennium. Includes some articles in their original German and French at the back of the book. FRom the Introduction: "For engineers the Underground is a flux made up of just numbers of people and dimensions in centimeters, a conduit where the laws of physics for liquids apply. For architects, however, it is a huge public space, with hierarchies and ramifications, decorations and commercial spaces, a sort of hidden network with the same attributes as the streets on the surface." Unless otherwise specified, all the illustrations are taken from the archives of the London Transport Museum, including the 1933 Henry C.
