For these minimum systems a thoroughstability analysis is carried out using aperturbation technique.Parametric excitation may lead to a coupling of justtwo modes of a vibrating system, while the remainingmodes are not affected. This coupling enables totransfer energy between modes and its subsequentmitigation. The results demonstrate that parametricexcitation can be employed to extend significantlythe area of stability in the parameter space of thesystem parameters. The proposed method showspotential in practical applications when adestabilization due to self-excitation occurs or whenthe damping of weakly damped systems shall beenhanced.
