Bobby Austin studied with screenplay writer Sheldon Thromberg and novelist John O. Killens. He coproduced Juba a TV mini-series and collaborated with his wife, Joy Ford Austin, on the stage adaptation of the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
