More wood was heaped near, and Jack was lolling lazily on the blanket which he had brought with him, while his friend sat on the pile of sticks opposite.

Naturally enough they failed :not only that, but the two fell into the hands of a band of wandering Sauk I ndians, who held them prisoners.
