Before commencing my work, I deemed it necessary to solicit permission to consult the records of the Academy; and, although I was personally unknown to the President and Council, their consent was at Once given, without any reservation. Several of the members, to whom I have applied for information as to their own personal history, have also most kindly aided me in the biographical part of my work.
