"A la Maison Française" s'adresse spécialement aux élèves de deuxième année de collège, de troisième de "high school," pour les préparer à continuer exclusivement en français leurs cours ultérieurs en cette langue.

Le texte de ces leçons est pris aux réalités, aux nécessités de la vie courante, le français étant devenu pour les Américains une langue d'intérêt pratique. Quant à la forme, c'est du français tel qu'il se parle en France, du français tel qu'il est. "Camoufler" la vraie langue serait-ce l'enseigner? N'est-ce point, au contraire, mystifier, décevoir maîtres et élèves?

La causerie explicative qui suit le texte en aplanit les difficultés, signale souvent de formes équivalentes ou possibles et témoignera que l'élève le comprend. Faite en française, elle l'habituera à ne se servir que de cette langue pendant la leçon. Pour lui, ce sera moins un effort qu'un plaisir et les avantages en seront incontestables.

Pour apprendre à parler voudrait inaugurer une série d'exercices méthodiques et efficaces à cette fin.
