Reseña del editor:
Excerpt from College Tramps: A Narrative of the Adventures of a Party of Yale Students During a Summer Vacation in Europe, With Knapsack and Alpenstock, and the Incidents of a Voyage to Rotterdam and Return, Taken in the Steerage
IN presenting this unpretentious volume to its readers, the writer cannot but feel the presence in it of defects which even the plea of youth' and noviceship cannot palliate.

But he has hoped that, from the character of the travelers, the peculiar manner in which their trip was made, and the somewhat unusual conjunction of places visited, this exaggeration of a long summer's experience may not be without its interest. The very attempt at a description cf travel in a land which has been so thoroughly and grandly exhausted by some of the world's greatest pens is, doubtless, presumptuous. In consideration, however, of the fact that no high literary style, no swelling periods, and no graceful word-paintings have been attempted, but that a simple tale of the events of the companionship of eight college juniors has been interwoven with only so much of description as was absolutely necessary for the connectedness of the narrative and the satisfaction of the reader, the present attempt can be said to be free from such a presumption.
