Despite being slightly misnamed - Evo dosen't conjure up a Sportster even to Evo Sportster riders - this collection of tips and tricks goes way beyond mere performance. Starting with an introduction to the basics and a list of tools you might consider equipping your workshop with, it goes through performaing oyur own 10,000 mile service and most simple maintenance tasks before it gets into the meat of the tasks themselves. laid out in sections for maintenance, fuel and exhaoust, suspension, and cahssis, tyres, wheels, brakes, engine, librication, drivetrain, transmission, electrical systems and personal touches, with individual projects calearly defined, this book gives you a quick overview of a wide variety of tasks that you can dip into as required. If you've got the sort of mind that can absorb technical information en-masse you might be able to read it cover-to-cover, but it's enough for the rest of us that we've got something to look things up in, and for us the indexing system works very nicely; never being much more than a cross-reference away from finding the relevant piece. And for added reassurance, each topic gives you a quick precis of waht you'll be expected to need in terms of times, tools and talent, as well as what you might hope to achieve. Where it is a little light on the detail, it's because it is covering the principles rather than describing the practicle steps required - typically jobs that you'd trust to an engineer, no matter how good your toolkit is - but for just about everything else there's a blow-by-blow account, and plenty of tables, graphs, and engineering drawings to laed yo to a successfull conclusion. Wheteher you've seriously considered tweaking your Evo, or just want to get a handle on the engineering concepts, you could do a lot worse that consider this, and a lot of it transfers from the Twin cam and back to the Shovelhead - at least in terms of engineering. --American-V magazine, August 2008

If you can only afford one Harley Accessory Book, this one is worth the investment. Projects are clearly laid out and well written and is complemented with sharp color pictures. The book is a great resource to get your creative mind into gear ! And it is a great guide to gradually master the mechanical challenges that your Harley-Davidson will throw at you. --Car Accesssories magazine

As an intermediate level "hacker" when it comes to repairs, I had always been more comfortable having the local dealer take care of routine maintenance. Prior to receiving this book I was only changing the oil and transmission fluid on my bike. However, "armed" with this new found information I now cover the bike from front to end! The layout and excellent photographs are easy for even ME to understand!! There is not a lot of industry jargon involved, making it simple for the "mechanically handicapped" to understand. My only complaint is that the book is not longer and I am impatiently awaiting "Volume II." --Motor Barn

If you can only afford one Harley Book, buy this one. It's the best of it's kind I've yet seen. Just one of the projects is worth the price. It' clear and well written with color pictures that are worth an additional thousand words. Reading this book will get you all fired up to spend some bucks and dig into that machine, so it's fun for the arm-chair mechanics, too. After a few projects you will feel comfortable with the mechanical challenges that a Harley can throw at you. If you do several, you will have a stong, well tended bike. It can save you a bundle if you want to hot-rod that EVO and you get bragging rights along with projects. I can't think of a better way to use twenty bucks --AmericanIron

I was impressed with the detailed compilation of tools suggested to have in your garage but more specifically that they are individually detailed for each project. I was also impressed with the evaluation of each project in terms of time and cost along with the sidebars explaining alternatives to consider while you are in the middle of a particular project. It even includes dyno tests results comparing various similar products, and much more... I wish this book was on the market two years ago before I paid to have done on my bike much of what's described within its covers. Now I realize I could have done most of work myself. Just performing ONE project will save you more in professional labor costs than you'll pay for this book. If you own a scoot with an EVO engine and you like to tinker, this book must be added to your garage library. This book is definitely a five-star publication when used along side the manufacturer's service manual. I rated it four-stars because it didn't always detail step-by-step instructions for each project. The author apparently left those steps for the reader to find in the service manuals. -rne- --Whitehorse
