Descripción Hardcover. Condición: VG+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: VG. Photos, Maps, Diagrams, Shilouettes, Ilustrador. 1st. Much has been written about the exploits of the Kreigsmarine's raiders of WWII. While much of that literature concentrated on individual ships, this work, however, examines each operation of 10 raiders (all converted merchant ships) that actually put to sea to prey on Allied merchant ships world-wide. Heavily armed and disguised, the raiders collectively destroyed or captured 138 Allied ships, including one cruiser. In addition to this heavy toll of shipping, the raiders also diverted Allied warships to searching for them on all the oceans. As well as following, chronologically, the operational career of each raider the author has included first-hand material from officers and crew members, German and Allies, describing many of the actions involved, the lonliness of the voyages (one lasted well over 600 days), the isolation, ship-board imprisonment and the ever- present danger of encountering a searching Allied warship. Probably the most comprehensive collective study of this aspect of Germany's war at sea in WWII. First edition from Robert Hale of 1978, 308 pages including bibliography and index, 38 b/w photos centrally located, deck plans showing armament lay-out of each ship, ship shilouettes to title pages and chapter head and illustrating disguises, cruise route maps with ship details.
